Guimarães is a small medieval town less than an hour's drive northeast of Porto. Once a very poor town, Guimarães has been renovated and rejuvenated, and is quite charming. We spent a day there, primarily to have dinner at the fine (Michelin star) restaurant, 'a Cozinha' ('the Kitchen'), that was highly recommended by our friend, Will Wynn, who knows the owner and chef, Antonio Loureiro. The meal was fantastic but we also had a very enjoyable day walking the cobbled streets and taking in the sights, including the remains of the Moorish castle -- one of many to be found in Portugal.
